Women´s Voices Needed in Politics
Commemorating Women’s History Month and in advance of International Women’s Day on March 8th , Ambassador of Iceland, Bergdís Ellertsdóttir, answered questions on women’s political participation on a panel alongside, her colleagues from Oman, Rwanda and Afghanistan The conversation was hosted by the Women & Politics Institute at American University and moderated by Betsy Fischer Martin, executive director of the institute.
Professionals, journalists, undergraduates, and graduate students from the greater DMV area, attended the event. Questions to the panelists included, challenges to women’s political participation, female empowerment, and eradication of the global gender gap, the impact of non-binary gender and the LGBTQ+ community in political participation, women winning in elections, and the role of political progressiveness in cultural society.
