Embassy of Iceland Celebrated The Day of Icelandic Language
The Embassy used the opportunity to host a celebratory reception and invited Icelandic expats, Chinese students from the Beijing Foreign Studies University studying Icelandic, members of the IBF (Icelandic Business Forum) and former ambassadors of China to Iceland to join and celebrate and appreciate the importance of the Icelandic language in all its unique glory, as well as uphold its history, present and future.
The Ambassador, H.E. Thorir Ibsen, gave a speech marking the occasion, highlighting the importance of the language to the Icelandic culture, and students from Beijing Foreign Studies University presented poem recitals in Icelandic and showcased their Icelandic language abilities with acted scenes from the Sagas. Former ambassador of China to Iceland, H.E. Wang Ronghua, recited his own translation of the poem „Íslands minni“, by Jónas Hallgrímsson, in Chinese.
