20th Anniversary Celebration for Icelandair in China

The Icelandic tourism promotion event - Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Icelandair in China & Rendezvous with Iceland gathered over 80 representatives from 38 travel agencies at the Embassy of Iceland on the afternoon of 30 May 2023. The event was hosted jointly by the Embassy of Iceland and Hiwing Air Travel, Icelandair GSA in China.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Thorir Ibsen pointed out that in 2019 China already ranked the 4th among the top 10 countries of foreign tourists to Iceland.  Various efforts, including the 10 visa application centers now open at normal working hours in most parts of China, have been made for the return of Chinese tourists.  Mr David Wang, CEO of Hiwing Air Travel  and Ms. Lisa Zhao, Sales manager, gave presentations on Icelandair and the long-standing cooperation with Hiwing Air Travel. Deputy Head of Mission William Freyr Huntingdon-Wiiliam and Head of Consular & Visa Affairs Kristin Arank Thorsteinsdottir also gave presentations on travel to Iceland and visa issues.

Ambassador Ibsen conferred letter of acknowledgement on 15 Chinese travel agencies, recommended by Hiwing Air Travel, for their outstanding contribution to the promotion of travel to Iceland in the past 20 years.

Officials and executives from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture & Tourism, SAS, Travelsky, Air China and Juneyao Air were also present at the event.
