US fighter jets for Air Policing in Iceland
On Sunday 22 October a contingent of 120 United States Air Force personnel will arrive in Iceland with four F-16 Fighter Jets. For the next weeks they will conduct regular Air Policing in Iceland on behalf of NATO. The mission is carried out in cooperation with NATO Control and Command Centre in Uedem in Germany and the Command and Reporting Centre at Keflavik Air Base.
The US flight squadron will operate out of Keflavik Air Base and will receive host nation support on the Security Zone. On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Defence Division of the Icelandic Coast Guard carries out the project in collaboration with Isavia.
NATO Air Policing in Iceland has been conducted since 2008 and 11 nations have so far provided support for the mission.
