About the Mission

The Permanent Mission of Iceland in Geneva opened on 1 March 1970 on the occasion of Iceland’s accession to the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). In February 2018 the Mission also became the Embassy of Iceland in Switzerland and Liechtenstein with the Holy See being added in 2022. The Permanent Mission represents Iceland at EFTA, the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the United Nations Office and agencies, as well as other international organisations located in Geneva.

2019 – 2021    Ambassador Arctic Affairs, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Reykjavík. Chair of the Senior Arctic Officials of the Arctic Council during Iceland’s Chairmanship of the Council.

2015 – 2018     Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Iceland to the United Nations, New York. Non-resident Ambassador to Cuba.

2009 – 2014     Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
