The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour has the responsibility for administration and policy making of social affairs and social security in Iceland as prescribed by law, regulations and other directives.
Bjarni Benediktsson is Prime Minister since 9 April 2024. He was Minister for Foreign Affairs from 14 October 2023 to 9 April 2024, and Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs from 30 November 2017 to 14 October 2023. Has has been a member of the Icelandic parliament Althingi for Southwest Iceland since 2003, Bjarni Benediktsson has been leader of the Independence party since 2009.
