Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate

Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson became Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate on December 21st, 2024. Jóhann Páll has been a member of Parliament (MP) for the Social Democratic Alliance for Reykjavík North constituency since 2021.

Jóhann Páll was a delegate of Alþingi's Economic Affairs and Trade Committee (2021–2023), the Budget Committee (2023) and the Welfare Committee (2023–2024). 

Jóhann Páll was born in Reykjavík on May 31st 1992, and lives with Anna Bergljót Gunnarsdóttir, Ph.D in chemistry, and they have one child.

Jóhann Páll graduated with MSc in European political economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2020, and with MSc in history from the University of Edinburgh in 2017. He holds a joint BA degree in philosophy and law from the University of Iceland (2015). Jóhann Páll graduated from Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík junior college in 2012.

Prior to becoming an MP Jóhann Páll worked as a journalist for the media DV (2012–2015) and Stundin (2015–2019).
