The Arctic Council SAR agreement implemented in a live exercise
A four day exercise were the Arctic Council agreement on Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue in the Arctic will be implemented in a live exercise in and around the coast of East Greenland, began today. The agreement was signed by all the eight Arctic States last year during the Arctic Council ministerial meeting in Nuuk, Greenland.
The SAREX Greenland Sea 2012 is organized by Denmark but most Arctic states will participate actively in the exercise. The Icelandic Coast Guard is responsible for Iceland's participation in the exercise but several national agency including, among others, the Civil Protection, Ice-SAR, the Icelandic Red Cross and Iceavia will also take active part.
