Opening benchmarks on agriculture and rural development fulfilled

Opening benchmarks, which were set for Chapter 11 on Agriclulture and rural development for Iceland‘s accession talks with the European Union, have been fulfilled by the Icelandic authorities. The EU Commission requested that Iceland prepare a strategy for the fulfilment of the opening benchmark for Chapter 11 with respect to possible EU membership.

 The Icelandic authorities finalized a time and action plan for the strategy last July. Following an assessment by the EU Commission of the fulfillment of the opening benchmark, it concludes that Iceland is sufficiently prepared for negotiations on the Chapter on agriculture and rural development. The Icelandic negotiation team is now preparing a negotiation position on Chapter 11.
