The Prime Ministers of Iceland and China issue a Joint Statement
The official visit of the Prime Minister of Iceland, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, at the invitation of the Chinese Premier, Li Keqiang, commenced today.
At their meeting the Prime Ministers discussed bilateral relations between Iceland and China, including economic and business matters in particular with regard to opportunities created by the Iceland-China Free Trade Agreement signed today. They also discussed human rights and international obligations, as well as gender and labour issues, but closer cooperation is planned between Iceland and China in these areas.
Following the meeting the Prime Ministers issued a joint statement. Today, Icelandic Foreign Minister Össur Skarphéðinsson and Chinese Minster of Commerce Gao Hucheng signed the Iceland-China Free Trade Agreement.
