Iceland to open Consulate General in Nuuk on 1 July
The Consulate General of Iceland in Greenland will be opened in Nuuk on 1 July. The main role of the Consulate will be to strengthen the business connection between Iceland and Greenland, to increase cultural relations and tasks related to Artic cooperation.
The Consulate is established following a parliamentary resolution of 10 May 2010 urging the Icelandic government to seek an agreement with authorities in Greenland to exchange diplomats. The Government decided last year to establish a Consulate General in Nuuk and the Icelandic Parliament granted an appropriation in the 2013 budget for the Consulate.
Iceland‘s first Consul General in Nuuk will be Ambassador Pétur Ásgeirsson.
