Icelandic Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources address UN Summit on Biodiversity

Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson, the Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources, emphasized ecosystem protection and restoration in his address at the United Nations Summit on Biodiversity held in connection with the 75. UN General Assembly on Wednesday, 30 September 2020.

Iceland was one of roughly 70 nations signing the Leaders Pledge for Nature ahead of the summit vowing to step up global ambition for biodiversity, climate, sustainable consumption and production and be guided by nature, climate and people when restoring societies after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Due to the pandemic, only New York-based diplomats participated in person in the Summit. Thus, ministers’ addresses were all given remotely, via video address and played in the main room of the General Assembly.
