Iceland‘s National Plan on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions made available to ESA
The Ministry for the Environment and Natural Resources has made available to The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) Iceland‘s Nation Plan, which describes how Iceland intends to fulfil the commitments of reducing greenhouse gas emissions jointly with the European Union and Norway in accordance with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
The Plan contains an overview of current national climate policies, a description of the national targets for the Effort Sharing sector (non-ETS) and target for forests and land use sector (LULUCF) as well as a description of the main existing and planned policies and measures foreseen to achieve them.
Also included in the National Plan is a description of the current national greenhouse gas emissions and removals, as well as projections for the period 2021-2030 to reduce non-ETS greenhouse gas emissions by at least 29%, using the year 2005 as a baseline.
