On 18 September 2024, Svanhildur Hólm Valsdóttir presented her Letter of Credence as Ambassador of Iceland to the United States to Joseph R. Biden, President of the United States.

During the ceremony, which took place at the Oval Office, Ambassador Valsdóttir conveyed to President Biden greetings from the President and Government of Iceland. They exchanged remarks on the long-standing relationship between the two nations, and the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, noting that the United States was first to recognize the establishment of the republic of Iceland in 1944. In his remarks, President Biden highlighted Iceland‘s leadership in the field of renewable energy and carbon management and Iceland‘s important contributions in the Arctic region. He also underlined the strong security ties between Iceland and the United States.

Svanhildur Hólm Valsdóttir is the seventeenth Ambassador of Iceland accredited to the United States.
