US Secretary of State meets with Iceland's Minister for Foreign Affairs
Condoleezza Rice, US Secretary of State, met today with Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladottir, Iceland´s Minister for Foreign Affairs at Hofdi house. This is their second formal meeting in the last two months. Secretary Rice and Minister Gísladóttir continued their dialogue on defense issues amongst others. This is the first visit by a US Secretary of State since US Forces left Iceland in 2006.
They also discussed empowerment of women, including women leaders´. Iceland has undertaken to commit resources to establish a website for the Women Leader´s Group which Secretary Rice founded. Amongst other issues were the Middle-East, a resolution of the Icelandic Parliament on the detention camp at Guantanamo Bay and whaling.
Secretary Rice´s working visit concluded with a lunch-meeting with Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde.
