Arctic Council Working Group on Sustainable Development (SDWG) meets in Iceland
Parallel to the Arctic Council Chairmanship Iceland also chairs the Arctic Council Working Group on Sustainable Development (SDWG). On 10-12 September the SDWG will meet in Reykjavik and in Ísafjörður, Iceland. Around 70 representatives from all eight Arctic Council member states, the Council’s Permanent Participants and Observers will attend the meeting.
In its work, the SDWG considers all three pillars of sustainable development, i.e. economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection. Since its establishment in 1998, the working group has conducted around 65 projects e.g. in the areas of Arctic human health, sustainable economic development, education, cultural heritage and languages.
During Iceland’s two-year tenure, a series of regular meetings and events will take place all over the country. Further information on the Icelandic Arctic Council Chairmanship can be found here and on Twitter, @IcelandArctic.
