Foreign Ministers of Iceland and UK meet in London

The Icelandic Foreign Minister, Mr Ossur Skarphedinsson, and the Foreign Secretary, Mr David Miliband MP, met in London on 31 March 2009 to discuss matters of mutual interest.

There was a frank and productive exchange of views focussing on outstanding financial issues and also the wider bilateral relationship.

Both sides agreed to work together, with others, to conclude the Icesave Loan negotiation in a mutually agreeable manner as soon as possible, through discussions led by HM Treasury and the Icelandic Ministry of Finance.

On the wider bilateral relationship, both sides stressed its strategic importance and looked forward to enhancing cooperation in fields such as defence and security, the Arctic and renewable energy.
