Joint declaration of Nordic and Baltic Foreign Ministers
The Nordic and Baltic Foreign Ministers made the following declaration on the humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka at their meeting in Iceland today, 21 August 2009:
We, the Nordic and Baltic Foreign Ministers, remain deeply concerned regarding the hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons in camps in Sri Lanka.
We deplore the continued human suffering which is completely unacceptable. Reports on the flooding of camps for internally displaced persons are only warnings for what will come when the monsoon starts in September.
We call upon the Sri Lankan government to solve the humanitarian crisis and to credibly engage in an inclusive political process without delay.
