Palestinian appreciation for Iceland´s initiative

Foreign Minister Össur Skarphéðinsson has received a letter from Dr. Riad Malki, Foreign Minister of Palestine, where Minister Malki expresses his appreciation to Minister Skarphéðinsson and to the Althingi for the support given to an independent Palestine. Foreign Minister Malki expresses his deep thanks and appreciation for the resolution that was adopted by Althingi on November 29 resolving to entrust the Government of Iceland to recognize Palestine as an independent and sovereign state within the pre-1967 Six Day War borders. Foreign Minister Malki states that the recognition will undoubtedly infuse the bilateral relations between Iceland and Palestine and enhance the cooperation between the two states. He also reaffirms that the Palestinian people and its leadership remain committed to a just and peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the relevant United Nations resolutions.
