Visit of an Indian Energy Delegation to Iceland 1-3 May 2024

An Indian energy delegation led by Mrs. Esha Srivastava, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India visited Iceland from 01-03 May 2024. Mrs. Srivastav who is also the Co-chair of the Iceland-India Joint Task Force on Geothermal Energy was accompanied by Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman & MD, OIL Ltd, Dr. Manas Kumar Sharma, Director, OIL Ltd, Mr Binayananda Bharali, Chief General Manager, OIL, Mr. Ravi, Director General, ONGC Energy Centre and Mr. Ranjeet Kumar, CEO, Techon Consulting Engineers.

The Indian delegation participated in the 2nd Joint Task Force Meeting on Geothermal Energy Cooperation which was hosted by Mr. Benedikt Hoskuldsson, Special Envoy for Climate, MFA and Co-chair of the Iceland-India Joint Task Force at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Reykjavik on 02 May 2024. On-going geothermal projects in India, direct of geothermal resources and cooperation in capacity building are some key areas discussed at the meeting.

The delegation also engaged in the following meetings and site visits:

  • Verkis along with consortium partners Iceland GeoSurvey and Techon hosted a lunch meeting for the delegation at their office. The Consortium expressed their interest to take up feasibility studies and pilot projects in various parts of India
  • The delegation met with ON Power and Carbfix during their visit to Hellisheidi Power Plant. The delegates expressed interest to explore possibilities for collaboration in CCUS.
  • Carbon Recycle International received the Indian delegation in their office and expressed interest to cooperate in deployment of their CO2 to methanol technology in India.
  • A dinner-meeting was hosted by the Chairman of Geotropy where he highlighted their current geothermal projects in India.
