German flight squadron deployed to Iceland

A squadron of six Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets from the German Air Force will arrive in Keflavik to conduct a training mission in Icelandic airspace later this week. The German Air Force seeks to familiarize their crews and aircrafts with Icelandic airspace and operational challenges in the High North. The training mission is separate but complementary to NATO’s enduring air policing mission in Iceland (ASIC IPPN), and provides an opportunity to deepen the growing defense cooperation between Germany and Iceland.

The 30 German airmen will be based out of the security zone in Keflavik and will train with the NATO Control and Reporting Centre (CRC). The Icelandic Coast Guard, in close coordination with civil aviation authorities, is responsible for hosting the deployment on behalf of the Defence Directorate at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland.
