Iceland's new Minister for Foreign Affairs
A new Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Lilja Alfredsdottir, took office today, succeeding Mr. Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson who had held the position since 23 May 2013.
Ms. Alfredsdottir has held the post of Assistant Director of the Office of International Relations and General Secretariat of the Icelandic Central Bank since 2013. She was seconded as a temporary Project manager to the Prime Minister‘s Office 2014 to 2015 and prior to that was an Advisor at the International Monetary Fund in Washington,, 2010-2013.
Ms. Alfredsdottir holds a Master's degree in International Economics Policy from Columbia University, New York, and a Political Science degree from the University of Iceland.
Ms. Alfredsdottir is born 4 October 1973. married to Magnus Oskar Hafsteinsson. They have two children.
