Iceland at the Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum 2024
Ms. Inga Petursdottir, Deputy Head of Mission (DHoM) of the Embassy of Iceland, participated in the Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum Roundtable Dialogue. During her remarks, she emphasized the pivotal role of green energy transition in achieving global carbon neutrality goals. Shanxi, a historically coal-dependent region, for its remarkable transformation, where renewable energy now accounts for 38.2% of its energy mix.
Ms. Petursdottir highlighted the deepening cooperation between Iceland and China in this crucial sector. China, as the world's largest emitter of CO2, also stands at the forefront of technological innovations in energy transition. Forums like TELC offer invaluable opportunities for countries to come together and share expertise, ensuring more effective international collaboration in addressing climate change. Ms. Petursdottir also shared Iceland’s experience of reaching 100% renewable energy for district heating and explore avenues of coop.
In addition to the TELC Forum, the Icelandic delegation also attended the International Geothermal Conference and the 5th Wutai Earth Science Seminar, further deepening scientific and technical exchanges between Iceland and China.
