Iceland hosts first ever CDENF meeting outside of Strasbourg

The Ministry of Education and Children in Iceland hosts a meeting for the Council of Europe Steering Committee for the Rights of the Child (CDENF) in Reykjavik, Iceland on March 28 and 29. The event is organized as part of the Icelandic Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

CDENF meets twice a year in Strasbourg. The Reykjavik meeting marks the first time the committee convenes outside Strasbourg, the Headquarters of the Council of Europe. The main items the Committee will discuss in Reykjavik is how to strengthen reporting of violence against children, how to strengthen justice for children through the increase of Barnahus across Council of Europe Member States and how to support children from Ukraine.

CDENF is the Council of Europe intergovernmental body composed of 46 representatives of states, specialists on the rights of the child. This Committee is responsible for preparing legal norms to strengthen the rights of the child, including in the area of justice for children, combatting violence against children, strengthening the participation of children, addressing the situation of children in vulnerable situations and overseeing the implementation of the Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2022–2027).
