Meetings with Hubei Foreign Affairs Office and Hubei Health Commission

Today, William Freyr Huntingdon-Williams, Deputy Head of Mission, and Petur Yang Li, Trade Representative, from the Embassy of Iceland in Beijing, participated in preparatory meetings between representatives of the Nordic countries in China and authorities in Hubei Province, China. The meetings where in preparation for a Nordic Healthy Cities event in Wuhan, Hubei, later this year.

The meetings were with representatives of Hubei Foreign Affairs Office and Hubei Health Commission. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the meetings were conducted online. At the meeting with Hubei Foreign Affairs Office, William introduced the cooperation between Iceland and Hubei, with emphasis on Wuhan, tourism, high-tech industries, and green solutions as well as highlighting opportunities when it comes to future cooperation in health-care related sectors. At the meeting with the Hubei Health Commission, William spoke of the innovation and development of the healthcare sector in Iceland, emphasising new developments in biotechnology and health science, as well as new facilities in Iceland, such as Science City and the new National University Hospital.

The Nordic Healthy Cities cooperation intends to run promotional events targeting agile display cities in China that will test innovative practices to tackle health challenges in future urban areas based on new Nordic technology and solutions. The chosen cities are innovative and based on past experience open to and prioritize learning from Nordic solutions thus providing Nordic companies with potentially other and bigger markets.
