Iceland among countries invoking the OSCE Moscow Mechanism
Today Iceland joined a group of 17 participating States of the OSCE in invoking the Moscow Mechanism as a response to credible reports of serious human rights violations and abuse in Belarus during the last weeks. The Moscow Mechanism, established in 1991, is invoked in the event of a particularly serious threat to the OSCE human rights commitments and security. A fact-finding mission of experts will be established to investigate the reports of serious human rights violations and abuse in Belarus during the last weeks. The situation in Belarus has been extensively discussed in the OSCE Permanent Council.
