Icelandic contribution to United Nations Peacebuilding Fund

Foreign Minister Valgerður Sverrisdóttir has decided to allocate USD 1 million to the Peacebuilding Fund, a special UN fund to assist countries recovering from conflict. The fund was established by the UN General Assembly in September 2005.   Iceland's contribution was announced at a funding conference held at UN Headquarters in New York on 11 October.

The fund is intended as a source of readily accessible financial support for projects that are considered of key importance in encouraging post-conflict stabilization.
