10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Chemical Weapons Convention
The meeting was held under the joint chairmanship of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Polland, Ms. Anna F. Fotya and Holland, Mr. Maxime Verhagen. UN Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, recalled that one third of the world’s declared stockpiles of chemical agent have been verifiably destroyed. He pledged that he would do all he can to promote full implementation of the Convention, and to help free the world from chemical weapons.
Iceland ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention in April 1997 and participates in the work of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague. Iceland was a party to the attached joint statement of the High-Level Meeting.
