Planning and Construction
Administration of planning and construction is the responsibility of the Ministry for the Environment and Natural Resources. Among the government's important objectives are the protection of human life and health, assets and the environment, and promoting rational and efficient land use, guided by the needs of Icelanders and health and safety considerations. Sustainable development is always an overriding concern of public policy in planning and construction.
To achieve these aims, professionalism is a key aspect of preparations for construction and planning, but a well conceived strategy, clear legal framework, guidance and efficient, harmonised supervision are also necessary. The institutions responsible for this work are the National Planning Agency and the Iceland Construction Authority.
